Murals turns bland concrete into art

A white-and-red cardboard box with the letters “”WA”" printed on the top arrived in Jakarta from France some weeks ago carrying the materials and instructions for the putting on of an extraordinary mural exhibition here in the capital.

Freeing paintings and drawings from canvas and paper, the exhibition, arranged by the French Cultural Center (CCF) and RuangRupa, uses walls in public spaces and commercial centers for the exhibition of nine mural drawings, four by French artists and five by Indonesian artists. ……

…..The local artists, Brama Oktiawan, Aditya Surya Taruna, Ary Buy Shandra, Mg Pringgotono, and Chairul Insan, projected slides of the paintings on the wall, carefully following the lines, and consulting with the original artists should any difficulties arise.

Membangun Komunitas yang ‘Nakal’ dan Mandiri

SHARE dan room, itulah kata yang membentuk Serrum, sebuah komunitas seni di Jakarta. Filosofinya, dengan ruang berbagi, mencoba mencari penawarnya (seperti serrum dalam arti kata sebenarnya, penawar racun).
Dunia kampus memang tak bisa dilepaskan dari mereka yang mendirikan Serrum. Pasalnya, semuanya adalah para penghuni tetap kampus. Sebelum mendirikan Serrum, mereka sering berkumpul, kuliah, tidur, hura-hura, digigit nyamuk, pokoknya susah senang bareng di tempat yang sama, yaitu kampus di Jurusan Seni Rupa UNJ. Mereka pun sering bikin acara pameran, art project, coret-coret, dan hura-hura di kampus. Kegiatan yang sering dilakukan mereka sebut dengan ‘bikin gara-gara’.

Edukasi dan sosial
Pertama kali Serrum terbentuk, dengan membentuk susunan departemen ala kadarnya, seperti ada departemen cetak dan noncetak, departemen komersial dan nonkomersial, serta bendahara. Tetapi sekarang sudah cukup berkembang dengan dilaksanakannya berbagai kegiatan. Serrum ada disebabkan dua program terdahulunya yaitu propagraphic movement dan project_or, mungkin kalau untuk idealisme dalam seni mereka pertahankan kedua program tersebut. Namun, untuk saat ini program Serrum bertambah ke idealisme untuk edukasi dan sosial.
Untuk art project, kerja samanya beberapa kali dengan Ruangrupa, Galeri Nasional, teman-teman di Scene Street Art Jakarta, pusat kebudayaan seperi CCF dan Goethe Institute, kemudian beberapa kali bekerja sama dengan Walhi, Jatam, Plan, Pec, dan IGJ.
Anggota Serrum pada awalnya ada MG Pringgotono, Arief Kurniawan (sekarang sedang tinggal sementara di Belanda), Arief Rachman (sudah lulus jadi Spd), RM Herbowo, JJ Adibrata, M Sigit Budi S, dan Gunawan Wibisono kemudian bertambah oleh Winanda Suciyadi, Ronald Qodariansyah, Wawan Setiawan, dan Luthfie Sabdakir.

In this exhibition program, ruangrupa invited PROJECT_OR to present their recent project “Saturday Night Fever”. This project intensively developed in three weeks by five young artists from Universitas Negeri Jakarta. They give their own interpretation on the theme “Saturday night” and trying to make a relation with personal experiences, specific sites, and the relation between the city with saturday night.

Dalam program pameran ini, ruangrupa mengundang Project_or untuk mempresentasikan project terbaru mereka, “Saturday Night Fever”. Project ini dikerjakan secara intens selama tiga minggu. Lima seniman muda dari Universitas Negeri Jakarta yang terlibat dalam project ini memberikan interpretasinya masing-masing tentang “malam minggu”. Mereka mencoba merelasikan pengalaman individual, situs spesifik, dan hubungan antara kota dengan malam minggu.
Karya yang dipresentasikan terdiri dari photography, video, dan karya interaktif.

Project_or is an independent organization, founded in 2004 at Universitas Negeri Jakarta. Initiated by Arif Rahman, MG Pringgotono, Yudhi Pramudia, Agus Jemat, JJ Adibrata, M. Sigit, & RM Herwibowo. Focused on art activities, specifically visual art. Project_or main activity is created art project incorporation with many individuals, and also other art & culture organization.

ruangrupa & Sanggar Anak ‘Akar’, presents: LET THE KIDS PLAY [a workshop about playground in the city of Jakarta] ramps with constructional hill, photography, video, modul, sketch, text. 15 Mei – 18 Juni 2006 “If they are not meant for children, they are not meant for citizen either. If they are not meant for citizens – ourselves – they are not cities.” - Aldo van Eyck Development of Jakarta especially the public space and the development of technology has a lot impact changing how kids nowadays playing. Many new games causing a lack of social and physical interactions, this also happen because lack of playground as a public space in Jakarta. This workshop will discuss every aspect about how important playground in the city, with the goal to make a design or redesigning new playground for kids. The focus will be how to make a playground that suitable with the progress of games nowadays.   Artists: Rene Hayashi [Artist - Mexico City] MG. Pringgotono [Artist - Jakarta] along with: Murki Aziz Fikri [Sanggar Anak 'Akar' - Jakarta] Every individual actually has the ability to take important roles influencing the growth and the shape of the city. Development of Jakarta, especially the public space, and the development of technology hold a big role in changing how kids play nowadays. These days, many new games cause lack of social and physical interactions.
